The invention of PHRAYA takes inspiration from such belief, with an aim to produce a blend of superior taste and experiential sensations for the world. Each element has its vital role in creating a unique appearance and characters of PHRAYA, as follows:

Earth

The soil in central Thailand is known to be rich and fertile, It is said that crops and fruits grown in this region yield the most luscious of flavours. Sugarcane specifically cultivated for PHRAYA is grown on a location that has been carefully selected for its fertility. Its sweet, full of flavour form the heart of this remarkable rum.

Water

Water has played an integral part in Thai people's lives throughout the ages, from early settlement on the river banks to its vital role in Thai agriculture. PHRAYA is distilled from soft natural water of the Ta Chin River, lending it a delicate mellow balance.

Fire

Fire is utilised to char the oak barrels used to age the rum. Its flaming property invigorates the wood of these hand-crafted barrels to improve the flavour of Phraya, imparting it with sweet and spicy nuances.

Air

The chosen rum spend years resting in oak barrels next to lagoons. The rums are given time to breathe slowly and in peace before emerging as Phraya. This maturation technique allows Phraya to develop its inimitable spiced yet smooth traits.

The technique used in the making of PHRAYA has been specifically developed to suit the humid climes of Thailand.

This deep maturation technique involves rums being aged in oak barrels that are stored in four-meter-deep warehouses located next to lagoons. The coolness of the lagoons’ environ effectively slows down the aging process, allowing the rums to nurture and develop its distinctive depth.

Upon its coming of age after a number of years, only barrels containing the very finest rums are selected for blending by the skillful master distiller. And so, PHRAYA, a rum of unsurpassed quality is created.

Established in 1977, SangSom Distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in Thailand. It has been producing top-selling brands of Thai rums for several decades. In 2011, Phraya was introduced using the distiller’s innovativeness and expertise.

“PHRAYA” is a Thai word used in the old days. Its meaning refers to one of the highest ranks bestowed upon a person by the King. This rank is granted only for outstanding service to the monarch and the country, thus reflecting the exceptional ability of a person. Hence this word is chosen for its befitting meaning of the fine Rum label with unparalleled characteristics.

PHRAYA is crafted in the province of Nakhon Pathom, the nation’s first and oldest city. Not only important archaeological remains are found here, sugarcane farms are a common sight making sourcing of this primary ingredient effortless. Abundance of freshly-cut sugarcane and temperate climate of this centrally located city provide a perfect setting for the art of rum-making.
